Germany 2020. Back on our bicycles.
Its the year 2020, Corona is ruling the world, and our plans keep changing. We did plan to visit friends in Oregon, well- we are not flying there.
Next we planned to cycle the Eurovelo 6 to Nantes. We have been to Nantes last year on our great trip, and we were amazed! What a wonderful, fun place to be. The kids were wildly excited when they heard we would cycle to the „elephant“. Their disappointment was huge when we cancelled that plan too, as the corona numbers are rising again in Europe.
I had to come up with a worthy alternative, i picked Bremerhaven as our destiny.

Crossing Germany lenghtwise, adding up to roughly 1000km.

And now? The first 340 kilometers are ridden. Mo did cycle every single one of it himself. He chose to take his brand new 24“ mountainbike. That one does not fit the follow me tandem. So I can‘t tow him.

We were a little worried if he would stay motivated for some days in a row and if he could cover the distance and the elevation change.

Almost 60 km to Speyer, not a big deal. 35 to St. Martin after a long morning playing at the museum, easy.
Day three: crossing the Pfälzer Wald. Wonderful, car free cycling through green shaded hills, on old forest roads and fun, easy mountainbike trails. Nevertheless, 50 km with 700m elevation gain.
We spent the night at lake Gelterswoog, Kaiserslautern. The kids eyes sparkled when we told them where we were. In Kaiserslautern is a Dinosaur park, big playground and huge dinosaurs. What else do you need when you are a three / six years old reptile loving boy?
The 35km to the campground were flat, easy cycling.
72 km along slow little rivers (Lauter, Glan and Nahe) were not much of a challenge for Mr. Moritz on the following day to Bingen. We were impressed. (We had a bit of a tailwind. That helped😉)
We met our friends, slept in their back yard and enjoyed great food on their terrace.
Half a day on the rhine river cycle path were enough for us. It‘s crowded, packed with bicycles and loud with trains. Still, beautiful. But we left the rhine valley at the famous Loreley rock and climbed through fields and forest to reach my moms house on the seventh day.
